Beyond loyalty and promotions, the mobile application now had to evolve into a true operational tool—one capable of addressing real on-site challenges, including congestion at fuel pumps in certain European locations. The objective was to leverage mobile technology to streamline the in-station experience, reduce payment-related friction, and optimize the overall customer journey, while ensuring the highest standards of security and compliance.

The initiative is built on a centralized monorepo architecture designed to support innovation at scale and activate features based on regional and regulatory requirements without fragmenting the digital ecosystem.

To ensure a consistent and secure experience across Circle K’s multiple digital touchpoints, the Okta CIAM platform was integrated to centralize authentication and identity management. The Pay by Plate journey combines multiple signals, including visual recognition, geolocation, and geofencing, to confirm the user’s on-site presence.
